A Machine Shop Classic November 6, 2009 Ngan Chai Hou This well-written book deserves lots of accolade for its clear and useful information. Not only machine shop owners and workers, but everybody distantly relevant will find this book a must-have reference in his daily work. In the book, many common-sense, practical and 'obvious' advices and tips are provided generously. The author is good at explaining technical aspects in layman's terms thus making it easy to follow and understand. And the author has a good sense of humor too. One of my favorites is "Blowing chips all over the guy next to you would be an example of a "non-dimensional" mistake that would likely irritate somebody." Seriously, you don't expect you could have some laughs while studying such technical subject like machine shop operation! Yes, book like this surely brighten up your mundane workday.
Excellent Resource September 12, 2009 Benjamin Bullock (Buffalo, NY) While not an introductory book by any means, the author lends a lot of insight that only a skilled machinist acquires with years of experience.
PRACTICAL TIPS March 3, 2009 J. Breithaupt (Shreveport, LA USA) This book is for anyone doing hands-on machine shop work. Full of everyday tips and time-savers. I've adopted many of them for my lathe and mill work. Excellent for hobbyists who have never worked in the trade. Hobbyists can pick up the tips and tricks they would have gained after working 30 years in a production shop.
Machine Shop Trade Secrets February 11, 2009 Armand Tomany (Jacksonville, AR) An Excellent reference book for the beginner as well as the seasoned professional. I've been a Tool Maker/Machinist and Mechanical Engineer for 25 years and I still picked up some good advice from the book. Very Handy.
I hope this helps in your decision to purchase.....

Essential reading for the beginner and experienced machinist July 19, 2008 Simon Newman (Canberra) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book provides a host of practical tips and tricks to make machining operations easier, faster and more accurate. The author covers lathe and milling operations as well as getting the best results when marking out and hand tool operations such as thread forming. Great to pick up and flick through or read from cover to cover. I have gleaned some very useful tips from this book that I have not read/heard about elsewhere. Written in an easy to understand style with a good balance of technical detail.
