4 out of 5 stars good game   October 22, 2009

This is a good game. It is worth the money if you get a good deal on it. I have trouble doing different tricks, i always do the same ones over and over again, but that is probably because I am not good at it ha.

4 out of 5 stars Good game, just not my style   September 17, 2009

When playing this game I could really appreciate the fact that it is well made and that the graphics are outstanding. The gameplay however was not up my alley. I thought it was going to be more of a racer that had jumps included, but a good part of the game consists in stringing together jumps and tricks in order to increase your boost. Those that are looking for this kind of experience won't be disappointed, but if you are like me, and you are looking for an experience more along the lines of games like Motorstorm, you may not find this one to be the best option.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun   August 27, 2009
Michael Alexander (greenacres)
Ripping around a tight corner covered with loose glacial scree, I dig in, nail the nitrous boost and preload my bike's suspension at the top of a 45-degree jump. With a lurch, my ATV leaves the ground and launches into the air, floating hundreds of feet above the mountains of New Zealand before beginning its sickeningly fast decent. Being the cool-headed racer I am, I decide this is the perfect time to pull off a series of aerial tricks, including the Saddle Flip, in which I stand on my quad bike's seat and do a backflip in midair. I land it like a pro, bank some boost juice as a reward and speed off toward the next jump.

It's a typical moment in Pure, the new off-road ATV racing title from Black Rock Studio and Disney Interactive, but the game is anything but. The developers at Black Rock, formerly Climax before the studio was purchased by Disney, are no strangers to the racing game scene, having worked on the ATV Offroad series and other racing titles for years. But rather than go the simulation route for their newest project, Black Rock decided to take things in an entirely different direction by focusing on wild, over-the-top action. The result is an incredibly satisfying thrill ride that succeeds in delivering edge-of-your seat action in a striking, inviting package.

5 out of 5 stars ATV Racing At It's Best   August 5, 2009

PURE, a surprise title released by Disney (though developed by BlackRock Studios), was an instant hit for me when it released in Fall 2008. Every prerelease video I saw of the game featured several key features, wicked cool stunts, beautiful vistas, and fun racing.

For background PURE is an ATV stunt racing games that features about 8 levels, several modes, beautiful graphics at these near-to realworld locations, hundreds of customization options, and online mode that features the different race types.

Races on ATVs in the game are carried out in three modes.
-Race: Standard 16 ATV per track (in career mode you are awarded points based on your placement, bonuses given for coming in first but it is possible to move on with places below first)
-Trick Race: There are powerups scattered around the track that give extra gas and points, in this mode you and 16 other players compete to get the most points before your gas runs out.
-Sprint: Finish the the short circuit race (16 players). Difference here is that the tracks are really short and you have to have good handling, acceleration and boost.
NOTE: All these modes can be played online, there is no offline multiplayer though.

There is a career mode that players can go through, "the world cup" in which you just move up this 100 position ladder to be the best in the world, several stages for each engine class (first is really slow, final stages are fast). Unlockables here in this mode give additional parts for the ATV.

ATV: Customization options, can store numerous builds of your dream ATV in the garage, real world brands as well. It is quite simple to build, but there is a quick build option as well.

Multiplayer: No offline multiplayer, but all of the modes exist online with support from 8-16 players.

Presentation: Graphically the game is beautiful on the PS3. There are several breathtaking captivating moments at key points on each full race track that showcase these venues. Tricks, there are tons of tricks in the game and each one looks amazing (though some are just impossible). The special tricks for each player also look outlandish but awe-inspiring. Sound, there is a narrator who narrates each mode for beginners, there was quite a bit of attention to detail paid in the squeaks for the ATV's, the riders voice on the track, as well as an interesting musical selection by various bands. They fit in well with the band with a key few tracks being those that may be recognized from the rock scene or the instrumentals.

UPDATES: In Spring 2009, the game was updated on the PS3 to feature Trophies

Although the game came out in Fall 2008, there is no wrong time to pick up this game. If it is your desire to have a nice slight sim/arcade stunt ATV racer with high production values, online mode, then go for it. This is a great addition to any gamers library.

4 out of 5 stars Delivers what it promises just don't overdo it   July 16, 2009

The sheer thrill of spectacularly arcade style stunt airs, mixed with an excellent and well thought out boost and trick system that takes just a little bit to get used to define the PURE experience. The afterthought racer models and VERY forgiving landing system do not alter the sheer joy that is experienced banging through the varied courses and gameplay styles this racer offers. Leveling through the race system and unlocking everything is addictive and a great game to play for a half hour or so every other day or so to prevent the fatigue that can come from playing a one note racer like this for too long. Even if that note is a golden one as it is here. A star off for the somewhat mysterious motion controls and lack of complete multiplayer experience.
