Steampunkery and Giftage March 12, 2010 Nerdrey (Boston, MA) These goggles were the perfect canvas for a steampunk birthday gift. They aren't your typical steampunk style frame, but with a bunch of rub'n'buff, some pleather, and gears/cogs/whatevers, not to mention a bit of elbow grease, these goggles can be the perfect addition to your costume/outfit/whatever-you-want-to-wear-these-with. Needless to say, my father loved the final product and I enjoyed the opportunity to decorate.
I've never wielded myself, but I'm sure these make satisfactory wielder's goggles. The only thing I noticed about the gogles is that the left lens was slightly darker than the right-- I'm not sure if that's the way they're supposed to be but I'm pretty sure that after awhile, that difference could be bothersome. Maybe just a factory error.

Not what I would consider professional equipment, but it will do for the little oxy-acetylene work I do.
Perfect for "Mad Scientist" or Dr. Horrible costume October 28, 2009 B. Janine (Los Angeles, California) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I ordered these for a "Mad Scientist"/Dr. Horrible costume for my son. The goggles are comfortable and work 'as is' or you can paint them for an aged patina. The strap makes them very easy to adjust for comfort wearing. They were much nicer than pictured. The price was right. You can't go wrong with these for a costume.
Since I'm not using them for welding, I have no comment on their use as welding goggles.
Fashion over function. October 27, 2009 Jarod Smith 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the Hobart 770129 Oxy/Acet goggles along with the DVD Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. The goggles were not purchased to be used for welding so I cannot speak for how they perform; however, I did paint them silver and use them as part of a Dr. Horrible costume and they were perfect!
