Must have reference October 31, 2009 Justin Sr. (Northern,Illinios United States) You need to have this book if you are interested in science or just about anything else. I bought the book when it was originally published but had to buy this republish since it contains major updates. Got to have it.
Lots of useful things, but lots of very random information too October 3, 2009 Todd G. Medema (CA, USA) IF you are an engineer, I imagine this book would be a life saver...
If you are stuck in an international airport trying to figure out where an airport abbreviation is referring to, I imagine this book would be a life saver...
If you need to know how much weight the ice in front of you will hold, I imagine this book would be a life saver....
you get the idea!
I'd give it five stars, but most of the stuff in the book is engineering related - and I'm not an engineer. The amount of information they packed into such a small book is amazing, but because of that there are no explanations, so you already need to know what all the abbreviations, etc. mean if you have to look something up in it :/
dont believe everything you read August 19, 2009 Michael Howerin (Plainfield, NH) 5 out of 17 found this review helpful
The area covering clamping force for Structural A325 and A490 Bolts is irresponsibly wrong. Using the published values will get you in trouble and probably negatively affect the structural integrity of what ever is being erected. As for the rest of the book i cannot comment, but if I can't trust one section, i can't trust any section. [...]
Best Reference Book EVER!!! July 10, 2009 Brian Sides (jackson, mo United States) This book contains everything you'll ever want to know and many things you'll never need to know. I am a teacher at a construction apprentice school and I make these books available to my apprentices. Many of them buy these books just for its references to welding, wire ropes and rigging information, knot tying on manilla rope, bolt and thread classifications, and weights of many different materials. There are also many math formulas which are used in construction for finding angles for pipes and formulas for figuring concrete.
This book also contains international calling codes, military ranks, weather map symbols, airport codes, first aid, etc., etc., etc.
Trust me, this book is an A+.
What a great little book June 24, 2009 Mark E. Painter (Independence, Kentucky United States) I'll keep my review short since others have gone into more detail. This book was recommended to me by a fan of Myth busters. I will say I was skeptical until I saw his copy. I'm not skeptical anymore. This is a great little book, I have know idea how this little jewel has eluded me all these years. There's not enough room to even begin to mention what this book includes. If you're looking for a birthday or Father's day gift, I guarantee just about any man will love it. And for the price you can't go wrong. I'll be definitely giving this out this year as gifts.
