| Customer Reviews: The one to buy!! September 29, 2009 Jacob Brillizan (CA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is an exceptional SolidWorks book. I've been trying to learn SolidWorks on my own; using the SolidWorks Tutorials, visiting blogs, and going to local SW user group meetings. This book, with its multi-media CD is priceless. The CD covers the SW interface, the commandmanager, and all of the basic features and sketch tools.
The book is written in a way that both informs you and provides the needed knowledge on SolidWorks and design intent techniques. It is also written in a way that I can find and actually understand what the author is trying to say. He does not ASSUME anything. This is what I need! Great book in all areas.
Awesone SW book with Multi-media CD and models August 14, 2009 Stephanie Young (Michigan) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
All I can say is awesome! It's refreshing to discover a great SolidWorks book (in a sea of SolidWorks books being published) that provides a truly instructional process to learn and implement the power and modeling features (2D sketching, 3D part modeling, 3D assembly modeling, and 2D drawings of SolidWorks. The book covers everything a new user would need to know and more.
The authors start with the User Interface, CommandManager, Task Pane, and then moves directly into creating simple 2D sketches, 3D parts and assemblies incorporating proper design intent, and modeling techniques throughout the book. The book even covers (in brief) the needed model knowledge to take the CSWA certification exam; which is quickly becoming an industry CAD standard.
A Multi-media CD is enclosed with the book, a big PLUS for any new user.
The book is very well illustrated, written and truly provides a step-by-step approach.
Easy to use book with multi-media CD March 21, 2009 J. Williams 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I started to use SolidWorks two weeks ago when my company and my department was both down sized!! I needed to learn SolidWorks fast, and I needed books (no money for training) that would walk me through the design process and provide the knowledge to create models quickly. I read a lot or reviews (and there are a lot on Amazon) and purchased two books. This one, and the Commands Guide for SolidWorks book. Both are great for the beginner to understand and apply SolidWorks. The layout of these books is awesome with a bold command concept followed by screen shot illustrations. The Multimedia CD makes for a very easy quick start to a SolidWorks session.
Both books are great, and both are very different. This book is more of a step-by-step procedure to create models, assemblies and drawings, where as the Command Guide book has tons of short tutorials to learn and practice various features and design techniques.
I would highly recommend both books. They are saving my job (at this time / moment ) with my company. My biggest regret; that I do not learn SolidWorks sooner.
