Product Description
This perfect resource for users with beginner to intermediate-level experience with SolidWorks illustrates clearly and carefully how multiple design situations and systematic steps combine to produce successful designs, and offers readers a comprehensive reference guide that begins with an overview of the software’s concepts and terminology. Create, modify, and edit sketches and solid features using the latest release of one of the most popular software programs in the industry, SolidWorks® 2009. Subsequent chapters address System and Document properties, FeatureManagers, PropertyManagers, ConfigurationManagers, and RenderManagers as well as 2D and 3D sketch tools, sketch entities, and more. This thorough coverage provides readers with a solid understanding of the techniques for reusing features, parts, and assemblies through symmetry, patterns, copied components, design tables, and configurations.

5 out of 5 stars a great book with short tutorials and all model files   March 21, 2009

I started to use SolidWorks about two weeks ago when my company and my department was both down sized. I needed to learn SolidWorks fast. This is one of two book's which I purchased.

The book provides tons of short tutorials (ten to twenty steps) to learn and practice various features and design techniques with a quick start section in the first chapter. All initial and final model files are provided on the CD. At this time, I'm somewhat overwhelm on the ability and functionality of SolidWorks. This is a very powerful software CAD tool with analysis capabilities.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn SolidWorks by using short tutorials

5 out of 5 stars The SW reference book to have!   February 18, 2009

I purchased two 2009 SW reference books: This one and the bible. The Commands Guide is by far; easier to read, utilize and comprehend. To coin a phase, "It is very user friendly." It covers substantial information on system options and document properties, default settings, (which is key when you have multi-users on the same system) and important modeling features for parts and assemblies always applying the correct design intent.
The drawing and sheet metal sections are also very good. This is any excellent SW desk reference book for any user who is looking to supplement the SolidWorks online help files and tutorials. The file structure on the CD makes it very easy to locate the corresponding model file to the chapter tutorial. Sometimes, just having a hard copy is nice.

It's a privilege and honor to be able to write a review about such an Incredible piece of Literature. This is, by far, The BEST book on SolidWorks in the WORLD. I (stupidly) bought the Solidworks 2009 Bible and got it yesterday and today I am using it for fire Kindling!

I plan to purchase every one of David's books, once you get one, you want them all.

I also purchased the Certified SolidWorks 2008 Preparation Exam Guide...WOW, ECELLENT. See my comment that Mr. Planchard quoted in response to that book. If you are really starving for knowledge with SolidWorks (like I am) then you've found it HERE!

We just updated from 2007 to 2009 at work. Sweet interface and additional features in 2009 - but I was informed by a few users after I got excited that most of the additional stuff was added in 2008.

The book provides an excellent job in bring the reader into the subject matter. Of all of the SW books I have purchased and "read"; and there are many, this is one of the most informative, well structured and to the point book with great short tutorials that I have found as a SolidWorks Reference book.

Keep the books coming! This is a great SW reference book. I purchased their 2008 and thought it was great. I just obtained the 2009, and it is even better with supplementary tutorials, sample models, and additional system information.

The 2009, just like their 2008 is very well written, clear and easy to comprehend. The book is presented in a logical series of sections; sketching, features, assemblies, drawings, analysis, and more. Their motto: "Learn by doing, not just by reading is the epitome for their short tutorials throughout each chapter.
