5 out of 5 stars Mastering Revit Architecture 2010   February 23, 2010

Mr. Aubin presents Revit 2010 in a clear and consise manner, starting with a simple project as an overview of the workings of the software, then moving into detailed explanations and examples. I am using this as a textbook for a Revit class at college and quite frankly do not need much help from the instructor because the book does such a great job of covering the material.

4 out of 5 stars Book Fell Apart   February 11, 2010
Robert Buckley (Boston, MA)
I have been using this book for the last couple of day and have found the information very helpful. The author has presented the information in a well laid out manner. I have gotten Paul Aubin's books in the past and have always felt that they were informative and helpful.

My only gripe with this book is not the content, but the construction. This book literally fell apart in my hands while I was reading it. I do not know if I just got a bad book or if this is how they are all constructed. I assumed for $59.19 I would be purchasing a better quality book.

5 out of 5 stars Mastering Revit Architecture 2010, Paul F. Aubin   December 5, 2009

Excellent Revit Architecture 2010 tutorial guide! I am about two-thirds through the book (skipped around a little by reading chapters 10 & 11 after reading 3) but have been very pleased with the presentation of the material. Thorough and easy to follow. If a Revit tool didn't seem to work like anticipated I could usually backtrack and find where I missed an instruction. If an error message popped up, PA usually anticipated it and explained why it popped up.
PA also gave plenty of instructions on where and how to explore the software on your own to further improve or practice skills.

5 out of 5 stars Mastering Revit Architecture 2010 - a great book   September 23, 2009

Paul Aubin has outdone himself. This is one of the most comprehensive collections of Conceptual discussion, practical tutorials, reference material and tips that I have seen in a while. Over 830 pages packed with information that is valuable to any user at any level.

Filled with ample screen shots of every aspect of the Revit platform, you will find this book to be one of the best examples of how to do it right.

The Quick Start first chapter is an overview that gets you started quick - DO NOT SKIP THIS. New Users should not skip this chapter. It will get you started and over the initial hump of intimidation of the software. This is followed by an in depth conceptual look at BIM and Revit. Do not skip this chapter either. In your excitement to get to the meat of a topic, you may be tempted to skim over these early chapters. You will miss something that may improve your Revit expertise.

Chapter Two delves into the user interface. 2010 was a major rework of the interface and many may have concerns. Aubin strives to alleviate these concerns with many screen shots.

Chapter Two introduces the many Manager Notes that help those who are overseeing Revit. These are scattered throughout the book and offer Mr. Aubin years of learning in quick tips for the Managers.

The TIPS and NOTES that are scattered throughout the book are very timely and valuable. For the advanced users, you could just skim the book for these tips as a reminder.

The contents of the book lay out a progressive process of approaching a project. Aubin never loses sight that the whole Model development is focused on avoiding problems and getting the project out the door. It marches toward the final section of the book, which is pointed at developing Construction Documents.

DVD files enclosed with the book give you all the tutorial data sets so you can begin immediately.

Free with the purchase of the book is a CADSmart Evaluation - actually two. One can be taken prior to reading the book and one after to see how you have taken the contents in.

The overall choices of layout, fonts, screenshots and more make this very easy to read and to apply. Kudos to DELMAR for the efforts they have taken to make this book readable. The Appendix are worth the price of the book.
