Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A foundational text.   March 16, 2007
Sean Moore (Perth, Australia)
The book Stirling Engines by Reader and Hooper has got to be the best starting place for anyone wanting a thorough and complete breakdown of the Stirling engine. It has to be mentioned that the information is of a historical nature as the book was published in 1983, irrespective of this it is an outstanding book.

The text deals with the various designs, their efficiencies, pros and cons. The text also moves into comparing the Stirling engine with other engine types such as the Otto cycle and many others.

If you want to get an understanding of the mechanics (as well as some of the economics) of the Stirling engine then this is the book for you. Well worth the investment.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent advanced text on Stirling Engines.   June 2, 1997

Stirling Engines is an excellent in-depth review of the whole field of Stirling Engine research. It is not intended as as introductory text; considerable background in thermodynamics and mechanical engineering is needed to get the most out of this book. It contains many references, and considerable information about keeping abreast of current research.

The scope of the the book is quite broad; it includes sections on historical development, theory and practice, design, and some other side topics. All in all, highly recommended for anyone with the appropriate background.
