Harley Davidson Oil Change February 16, 2010 D. Kroll (Tx) Straight forward and easy to understand. Good tips and takes away the apprenhension and you don't have to buy the shop manual. Would make a great gift for the HD owner.
Terrible November 14, 2009 George F. Veit This book is poorly written, with misspellings and grammatical errors. And here is the part that caused me to actually (on principle) return the book to Amazon -- towards the end, the author stated the following: "If you ride motorcycles, you are LIKELY to DIE on one. So get yourself right with the Lord." He then goes on to preach about Christianity. I don't care if you're religous or not, you do not want to hear (incorrectly, i will add) that you are LIKELY to DIE on a motorcycle if you choose to ride one! Likely means I have more than a 50% chance of dying if dare ride one of these machines. And to think that while trying to learn how to change oil, I was being preached to, really blindsided me. That being said, I was no better at changing the oil on my motorcycle after I read this book, than I was before. Maybe the author should have asked his readers to pray for mechanical assistance because his book surely didn't help!
Some of Us Need Help December 18, 2008 John B. Anderson (Bell Buckle, TN) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is great for those of us who have always been intimidated by the idea of removing the drain plug, letting the oil run out, cleaning the drain plug, putting it back in, getting it tight enough but not so tight as to strip anything (I can't even imagine the knowledge and experience that would require), and adding new oil (how much?!! how do you tell??!!)
When I am at Starbucks getting a mocha cinnamon latte and some other bikers come in, it seems to me that the guy with the grease on his hands always has the best looking "biker chick." My hope is that I will, with the aid of this excellent book, be able to be one of those guys.
This fine book explains technical terms like shop rag, crush washer, and torque (I always thought torque was an Italian pastry) so clearly that even a guy like me can understand.
I have not yet tried to change the actual oil filter on my Super Factory Custom Lowrider Special Edition Genuine Harley-Davidson, but once I feel comfortable with the drain plug, I am confident that this book will make that biker dream a reality.
Oh, the book does fail to explain what to do if the oil is draining and your cell phone jingler goes off. Do you have to watch all the oil come out before you do anything else? Maybe there will be a sequel.
The Harley owners bible December 18, 2008 Bad Biker Bill (M&Mville) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book has changed my life. No longer will I have to fork over $100 or more to my HD dealer again. I can now change my own oil !!! This book is so amazing that I'm buying it for Christmas for all my two wheeled friends. It is a step by step instruction written in simple terms with amazing pictures to guide you. Please do yourself a favor , if you own a Harley BUY THIS BOOK !!! I have dreamed of someday being just like the Tuttles and building my own super cool choppers. Well just as the books description says , reading and understanding this book is the first step to becoming a motorcycle mechanic. And I will. This book has given me the confidence to go for it. God bless the author and God bless the publisher. They have made my dreams come true.
I also wanted to point out to another reviewer that loctite should never be used on a drain plug , JB Weld is far better.
