4 out of 5 stars Overemphasis on the dangers of motorcycling   November 5, 2009
T. Theisen
As a new rider, I am VERY WELL aware of the dangers of riding. That's why I took the Rider Safety Course, as well as read books such as this one. It addresses all of the dangers well, but almost left me deciding that maybe bikes were just too dangerous. I'm sure there are some riders who need to made more aware of the risks, and have a healthy fear of the dangers. I think if you are already nervous about beginning riding, this book may make matters worse. For me, I found the book "Motorcycling Excellence" to be a better book. More informative and in depth, and did a good job of making you aware of the dangers, but also building your confidence, and making you really want to practice and master riding skills.

5 out of 5 stars interesting reading, very thorough   November 2, 2009

This is a great book. Mr Hough is very thorough in his explanations and gives a lot of good information.

3 out of 5 stars Proficient Motorcycling   October 21, 2009
M. Shaw (Springfield, MA.)
The book's nicely written. Very easy to follow. It's a great read for all riders with all levels of riding experience from newbies to vets. I've ridden for over 100,000 miles and have completed the MSF Experienced Rider Course and the book reconfirmed most of everything I've come across over the years and managed to learn a few new things also.
The only negative comment I have is that the binder is already falling apart. Not too impressive for a brand new book.

5 out of 5 stars Was proficient years ago, not so much so today!   October 13, 2009
P. Kramer (Leesburg, IN USA)
I owned and rode motorcycles over 30 years ago. I had both dirt bikes and road bikes and was comfortable riding in all conditions. I sold my last road bike shortly after starting a family. Recently, I purchased another motorcycle and since I had let the motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license lapse, I enrolled in ABATE Basic Riders Course, which is affiliated with Motorcycle Safety Foundation to earn it back. This book was praised by the instructors as a source for further reading. I purchased it and started reading and found it to be excellent. It is easy to read, the author explains everything in plain english, and the photos are relevant to the subject matter. If anyone asks me about it, I will highly recommend they buy it for themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Should come with every bike purchase   October 9, 2009
B. Bray
I'm an aspiring rider, wanted to read up on what it takes to be good before I made any purchases. This book really opened my eyes up to the physics of motorcycling that I had not considered, and does a good job at making you aware of the hazards without scaring you. I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about becoming a motorcyclist.
